Poetry With A Mission

...a thought provoking poetical exercise.

“Do not be too wicked, and do not be a fool; why should you die before your time” (Eccl 7:17).

“ ‘But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses’ ” (Matt 6:15).

“ ‘So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift [Christ insists that men must make things right with their fellow men before they can be reconciled to God (1 John 4:20)] ” (Matt 5:23,24).

“..work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Phil 2:12). Note James 4:12.

“For if we go on sinning deliberately after  receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries” (Heb 10:26,27, ESV). Note John 5:22; Acts 17:31.

“And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once [our natural death], and after that the judgment” (Heb 9:27).

“Mortal, I have made you a sentinel [a watchman who warns of approaching dangers] for the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, you shall give them warning from Me. If I say to the wicked, “You shall surely die,” and you give them no warning, or speak to warn the wicked from their wicked way, in order to save their life, those wicked persons shall die for their iniquity; but their blood I will require at your hand [failure to utter the warning may result in their rushing headlong to destruction, hence their blood will be required at the watchman’s hand. God depends upon the cooperation of human beings in His work of salvation]. But if you warn the wicked, and they do not turn from their wickedness, or from their wicked way, they shall die for their iniquity; but you will have saved your life” (Ezek 3:17-19). Note James 5:20.

“ ‘Just as it was in the days of Noah, so too it will be in the days of the Son of Man [the state of the world at the time of Christ’s appearing]…’ ” (Luke 17:26) ——— “The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth [pre–Flood], and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence [hence the worldwide flood God sent]” (Gen 6:5,11).

“He that overcometh...I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name [acknowledge him as a loyal devoted follower] before the Father, and before His angels”  (Rev 3:5,KJV).

“Discipline yourselves, keep alert [due appreciation of the seriousness of the times and difficulties]. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil [Satan] prowls around, looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, to keep an eye on those who cause dissensions and offenses, in opposition to the teaching that you have learned; avoid them. For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded” (Rom 16:17,18).

Regarding God's Judgment

Will tomorrow come for you — that is, will you enjoy another day,
And if your life ended now, what would your record (in Heaven) say?
Would it be eternal life or destruction that you’d discover,
And might you falsely think that grace, your neglected wrong would cover?

Remembered wrong, I'm meaning here, or what God may clearly point out,
In other words, things it’s possible for you to do something about.
For where you've forgotten, or are unable, grace will cover you,
But what grace will not cover, is you not doing that which is due.

Yes, such silly risks are taken daily by Christians everywhere,
Just treating every day as though they have plenty more days to spare.
Hence why many lose their lives before they have put those wrong things right;
Oh, what could be the price that they pay for such foolish oversight?

No, we can’t afford to play with grace, this life of ours, or others,
For the justice in God’s Law, such wrong behaviour soon uncovers.
Thus, every day we need to live as though every day is our last,
Putting right the wrong that we do, and even wrongs within our past.

Thinking that God will overlook the many wrong things that we do,
Is presumption at its best, which simply leads to what we may rue.
For via the Holy Word of God, we've been given ample warning
That being: That we shouldn't let God's investigation catch us yawning.

Satan is like a roaring lion, for he knows that his time is short,
Hence why he's seriously upset with those warning, “Don’t get caught!”
Therefore, he makes God’s judgment scene appear invalid or benign,
And all those ones who warn of it, appear as if they’re out of line.

Though warnings about God’s Judgment some once gave in ways that weren't best,
Now in the other direction, the pendulum has swung with zest.
For now we're seeing grace purred, and God’s Judgment scoffed at, or downplayed,
And a lesser focus on His Law — while lives — above — still get weighed.

Those warnings about God’s Judgment scene, folk still need to hear today,
In fact, the need is greater, given we're seeing more Christians stray.
Yes, it's hardly the time to relax, for more concern is needed,
Given that the evil God warned of, has increased, not receded.

Those who're doing their best to walk rightly, are covered by God’s grace,
But should they choose to walk wrongly, they will simply such grace displace.
For it was never God’s intention that His grace should cover sin,
But that through His enabling, the victory over sin we’d win.

Thus, we should make sure that we're following God correctly today,
For we could miss out on eternal life should we choose to delay.
Yes, death can strike us unprepared, and therefore, therein lies the need
To much more carefully think about all those things that we should heed.

And therefore, will you heed God’s warnings, changing ways and righting wrongs,
And by giving your full allegiance to the One whom it belongs?
And will you also ask of God today, that He impart to you
More wisdom and inner strength so that you will know and live what’s true?

My dear friend,

Someone else might be affected by any wrong choice that you make,
And which path might it be — that as a result — they then choose to take?
And could that one be me, perhaps — and hence why here I ask of you:
Will you please consider how your decision might affect me too?
